1 sub 2 boxes

Post by fook007 on Tue Jan 24 2017, 14:33

Hi All,
I have a problem and its this, I have 2 satellite boxes, now my C-line  provider says I can use 1 sub on two boxes, ok so far?.

I have installed the 2nd box, and installed new LNB as there wasn't enough space on the old LNB. so each box has it's own cable running to the LNB.

I was using these home plugs to try and save on ripping into walls, but when I connected both boxes up, and have them turned on only 1 box will work at any 1 time.

so I thought it maybe the home plugs, so I run 2 cat 5s cable's  from my modem straight to each box, but its still the same only 1 box will work at any 1 time . if both boxes are on 1 will freeze and the other will work for a few seconds then vice versa.
its like both boxes are fighting for the signal.

all I'm trying to do is get both boxes working independently.

Any help appreciated..

A LNB (twin) is needed with a cable for each box.

Single LNB only does one box at a time, trying to use it on two boxes could burn it out.

Thanks for your post mcm, in total I have 6 cables that need to go to the dish,

I see that a quad lnb  will split the signal for multi receives, but only has 4 port's is there a solution to this?

Why 6 cables when only 2 boxes are being use.?
If 6 cables are indeed needed buy a 6 port LNB.

Why 6? Ok downstairs I have got a sky box & an additional sky box, so them 2 boxes are giving out 4 cables.
My 2 additional boxes are giving me a total of 6.
As stated I bought an Lnb with 8 ports, but I'm lead to believe that I need a quad lnb, as this type of lnb will split the signal, but I need a quad lnb with 6 ports.
Is there such a thing out there?

put it this way an octo [ 8 feed ] can supply 8 single tuners
or 4 twin tuners.by running each tuner on its own feed and lan connection=different ip address.

now clarify with provider what multituner lines and how many tuners can you use as twins may count as 2 but should be classed if good 1 connection.

ok. this has been doing my head in, should be simple be hey.

your correct in what you are saying about the octo= 8 feed, can supply  8 single tuners or 4 twin,

so this should be able to take my 2 twin= 4 and my 2 single=2..    total 6 used with 2 spare ports.

I have a blade 7000 and an open box, I have added the open box via its own cable, using the C-line from my blade, I have entered this onto the open box, as my provider says 1 sub for 2 boxes.

ok, when both boxes are on, only 1 box will work at any 1 time, if its not the LNB?  is there a conflict with the C-Line or IP address , can you change the IP address using 2 boxes on same internet connection?

Any help please?

Morehelpme  would that info not be located with in the box settings?

any help

When both boxes are on does the FTA channels work, if not its your feed.
If both work could be ur sub not your IP address.

I tried the FTA today, and yeah both are working, no problems at all.

which then leads me to think can 1 sub run 2 boxes?
or will it need its own Sub?.

I emailed my provider last night to asked him, still waiting for an answer from him.

Can confirm one sub can run two boxes, check the providers blog to see if any posts confirm using two with one sub is OK.

or get a test line and try in second box and if it works would suggest he was supplying 1 tuner box and not 2 working ones.

My sub provider has emailed me back saying, one sub one box, but he did say it was 2yrs ago when he told me. He never sent me an email saying that he had changed this though. So I guess I'll just buy a 2nd line, as this dude C-Lines are very reliable.
Jonpc, morehelpme, mcm, respect to you guys for helping me out again, I'm sure I will be asking you guys for more assistance some where along the line.Thanks.
